get paid to site

Let me introduce you to Swagbucks… basically it’s a rewards site founded in 2008 by two guys named Josef Gorowitz and Scott Dudelson. It’s headquarters is based in Los Angeles, California. It’s really popular with over 13 million members and it has paid out over $260 million to it’s members.

What Is a Rewards Site?

earn rewards by taking surveys watching videos searching web

Also known as a GPT (get-paid-to) site, you go on the site and perform  various simple tasks like taking surveys, watching videos, searching the web, etc. and by doing so you will be rewarded with a digital currency which they call “swagbucks,” think of it as points.

Once you’ve accumulated a certain amount of swagbucks (points), you can then cash out and turn it into real prizes like Amazon gift cards and even real cash via PayPal.

There are a bunch of ways for you to earn swag bucks such as using the search engines, playing games, taking surveys, watching videos, and much more.

How Much Are Swagbucks (Points) Worth?

earn swagbucks points

Each time you complete a task you will be rewarded with swagbucks. So how much are they worth? Each swagbuck is worth roughly around 1 penny in US currency.

Once you have accumulated enough points, you can go to their rewards store and cash out, turning these points into real cash prizes you can use in real life.

$5 Sign Up Bonus:

Currently Swagbucks is giving you a free $5 just for joining. You can get this bonus merely by signing up then confirming your email. If you’re ready to join now you can sign up HERE.

Completing Surveys:

Surveys are a great way to earn points. Surveys typically take 10-30 minutes to complete and will reward you with about 25 to 250 swagbucks (about $0.25 to $2.50) after you complete them.

The tricky part though is that you need to qualify for the survey, and surveys that pay out a lot of points are difficult to qualify for. Whether you qualify for it or not depends on your profile, location, and a bunch of other factors.

Paid To Sign Up:

Also known as “offers,” you are paid to sign up for websites and there are both free and paid offers. Free offers typically require you fill in a sign up form with your name, email, birthday, and some other info. They are easy money and the pay isn’t bad, usually in the range of $0.25 to $3.

Paid offers may require you spend money to make a purchase, such as making a deposit on a gambling website.

There are also a lot of free trials you can sign up for which requires a credit card, these are technically free as long as you remember to cancel before your card gets charged. Paid offers pay around $2 to $10+. Generally the more financial involvement on your part the higher the pay.

Searching The Web:

You download their search engine toolbar, and instead of going to google, yahoo, bing, or wherever you normally go to search for things, you use the search engine toolbar instead. If you’re someone who use the search engines a lot on a daily basis, you can earn around 10-50 points ($0.10 to $0.50) per day.

Watching Videos:

If you’re like me and you love watching random things on the internet, you will like this. You can earn points by watching videos in various categories such as News, Food, Health, Music…etc and for every 10 videos that you watch you will earn about 3 points ($0.03).

The bad news is that they will only let you earn a maximum of 150 ($1.50) swagbucks per day. So there goes the dream of watching movies all day for a living.

Playing Games:

Who doesn’t love the idea of getting paid to play video games online? You can with swag bucks. Unfortunately they only allow you to earn a maximum of 10 swagbucks per day, which is like 10 cents.

Earning Cash Back:

Cash back is basically where you shop online and receive a portion of the money you spent back to you. Swagbucks have a bunch of different stores that you can choose to shop from, and if you spend lets say $50 at Amazon, you can earn about 150 swag bucks after you’ve made your purchase, which translate to about 3% cash back. But you have to shop by going to the Amazon store from the link Swagbucks provides or it won’t track properly.

Referring Friends:

Swagbucks gives you a referral link you can send to your friends and other people you know. If they join through your link and earn swag bucks, you will receive 10% commission.

Turning Swagbucks/Points Into Cash:

paypal amazon gift cards

Once you have accumulated a certain amount of Swagbucks/points you can then redeem them in the form of either gift cards or Paypal.

The minimum payout threshold is pretty low, the exact amount varies depending on what you redeem them for:

  • Amazon gift cards start at a minimum of 300 swagbucks ($3 equivalent,)
  • Other gift cards like Esso and Starbucks start at 1000 swagbucks ($10 equivalent.)
  • There are many gift cards to choose from, I recommend you sign up to Swagbucks to check out the full list of reward options.
  • Paypal starts at a minimum of 2500 Swagbucks ($25 equivalent.)

The Good:

  • Completely free to join
  • Gives you a $5 just for signing up
  • Plenty of ways to earn swagbucks/points
  • Tasks are easy to perform and require no skills
  • Easy to convert swagbucks to cash
  • Low minimum payout threshold
  • Long-standing GPT site with a good reputation
  • Very user friendly platform

The Bad:

  • Only good for making extra income, not a substitute for a job
  • Not available worldwide, only in USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and Ireland

Final Verdict: Is Swagbucks a Scam?

thumbs up legit

Swagbucks is definitely not a scam, they are a legit GPT website that allows their users to earn a bit of extra money on the internet. They’ve been around for many years, have a good reputation, and are known to actually pay their users their earnings.

With that being said, is Swagbucks worth your time? Maybe, depending on what your goals are. If you’re looking to make a few quick bucks here and there, then Swagbucks is definitely a legit way to do so.

  1. I have the exact same opinion of this app. It’s definitely not a scam, but the advertisements can be be alittle deceiving. I’ve seen many promotions claim you can make a lot of money at home when, in reality, you could maybe make $5 a day. For anyone looking to make real money online affiliate marketing is the way to go. Thanks for an honest review of Swagbucks. Keep up the great work!

    Rock & Roll

  2. Sometimes people don’t believe me when I tell them about how much you can make taking paid surveys online…

So I took a video of myself actually getting paid $500 for paid surveys to finally set the record straight.

I’m not going to leave this video up for long, so check it out now before I take it down!

You CAN make money taking paid surveys online, but to make $500 it’ll take you a VERY long time. You can only typically make about $50 or so per month doing these things.

Hello! I’m also a huge fan of Swagbucks!

I joined it a few months ago because I was looking for something similar to Inbox Dollars that I could use at the same time. I’ve already made over $70 and I haven’t done a single survey. I just signed up for everything that was free, and I sometimes leave the video ads running when on my tablet when I go to work.

It’s not going to make you a ton of money, but using apps like this I make an extra $2,000 a year, so it adds up.

    Good review!

    • Author - Kent Leung says:

Lol yes, I also like to just leave the video ads running while I go do something else. Also you can open a few tabs so a few video runs at the same time. Bad for the people advertising, but good for people looking to make a few swagbucks.

  4. Jenny says:

Unfortunately, it’s not available in my country. Otherwise, it sounds really good for extra income. Especially as it is free to join and you can earn money by playing games or searching the web. Things you do, anyway!
Referring friends is also great and if they’re active, you can have a stable income, as little as it is!

    • Author - Kent Leung says:

Referring friends is what I primarily do on Swagbucks to make money. You can actually make quite a bit doing this, I know one guy who makes $2000 a month referring others to join. If you only refer your personal contacts then obviously you won’t make much, but the key is to build a big audience via blogging and refer them that way. I show people how to do this in my FREE Guide here.
