So about a while ago I wrote a review on Swagbucks which is a get-paid-to site that pays you to take surveys, do cash offers, watching videos, playing games, and getting cashback from shopping. Well if you like the part where you get cashback shopping, which means basically saving money, then you’ll love the ShopKick app which is what I’ll review today.
If you’re someone with an old phone, not a smartphone, then just check out Swagbucks instead, because ShopKick is an app-based mobile platform and it won’t work on desktop.
So is ShopKick a scam or legit? How much money can you save shopping? How do you get paid your savings? Keep reading to learn the answers in this ShopKick app review!
What Is The ShopKick App?
It’s basically a free app you can download from the Google Play or Apple store, it lets you save money by paying you to visit the stores they’re partnered with. You may have to find certain items at the store and scan their barcode with your smartphone’s camera.
If saving money isn’t enough for you and you’d like to make extra income online then check out Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate where you get paid to take surveys, watch videos, play games, and more.
How Does The ShopKick App Work?
ShopKick rewards you with points, aka “kicks” whenever you go to a store and scan a product. These kicks can be redeemed for various gift card rewards from retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks, Best Buy, and much more.
In addition to gift cards there are also physical items you can redeem your kicks for such as clothing, women’s stuff, electronics, and other stuff. If you’re looking to redeem your points for cash then unfortunately you’re out of luck because ShopKick offers no cash payment options.
If you’d like to earn cash payments then perhaps you can check out Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate instead which are sites that also lets you save money shopping but they all pay cash via Paypal.
ShopKick Tips and Tricks
There are certain things you can do to maximize the amount of money you can save with ShopKick. Here are some tips and tricks to get your more savings:
- Get your friends and family to join ShopKick as well, if they become a referral that’s more money for you
- Take your ShopKick referral link and spread it like wildfire. Post it everywhere you can like your blog, social media, etc.
- If you link your credit card to the ShopKick app you can earn money by shopping at their partnered stores
- Browse through the various offers that may come up on the app everyday for more savings opportunities
It’s Not All Hunky Dorey
No app is perfect and there are always things they can do to make it better. I’m not saying that ShopKick is a scam or anything it’s just that in my research I have found a number of negative things that I feel are worth mentioning. It may or may not be a big deal for you, but here are some cons about ShopKick you should know about:
Stingy Referral Program
It appears that ShopKick has a referral program that pays you to refer others to join them. Unfortunately it’s not a very good one in my opinion. For every 3 people you refer to join you will get 2000 kicks, but it seems like they only limit you to 100 referrals, so basically after that you get nothing and there’s no point to refer more.
Kicks Have Uneven Value
Depending on what rewards you redeem your kicks for, it could have completely different values. What I mean is for example if you redeem a $10 gift card at one retailer may cost you 1000 kicks, while with another store to redeem a $5 gift card would cost you 750 rather than the 500 you would expect.
I really dislike uneven kicks value because other sites like Swagbucks give you a 1 to 1 even ratio for your points. So if you had 1000 points and it’s worth $10 for a gift card, then it’s going to be the same across the board no matter what gift cards you choose. It just makes it simple and I prefer that.
No Paypal Payments
If you’re someone looking to receive your savings via cash rather than some pesky gift card you don’t even want, then you are out of luck with ShopKick because there’s no Paypal or even check payments. Basically your kicks can only be exchanged for gift cards.
If you like shopping online or saving up to redeem for a big physical prize then that’s all fine and good, but some people out there would rather receive cold hard cash that they can deposit into their bank account to help pay their rent, phone bill, buy a cup of coffee, etc.
Is ShopKick Even Worth Joining?
Although I did list several cons about ShopKick for the most part I think they may be suitable for many people who are looking to make a few extra dollars for doing something they’re already doing anyway which is shopping.
If you’re looking for an app that can help you save up some money then ShopKick is worth considering. But for myself I cannot see myself using this app because there’s no point if they don’t even pay cash, I don’t want gift cards and it’s useless to me. But some people don’t mind gift cards, so it’s up to you and what you need.
ShopKick may be a good way to save money while shopping, but if you’re looking to actually earn money online then I recommend you check out sites like Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate which are “get-paid-to” sites that let you earn by taking surveys, playing games, watching videos, doing offers, and yes they pay you to shop online too!
