Remotasks Review – Make Money Online Doing Tasks?

work remotely doing easy tasks

Today I’m reviewing a site called Remotasks, they offer regular folks like you and me the chance to earn a small amount of money online by doing tasks. These tasks don’t require any skill and can range from audio transcription to image annotation and more.

Sounds like a pretty solid extra income opportunity so far, but do they pay well enough for it to be worth your time? Can you make a full time income doing it? How do they pay?

Discover the answers below in this Remotasks review.

Quick Summary

Remotasks is a website that connect workers (people like you and me) with employers who are looking to get small jobs done. These jobs/tasks can be things like audio transcription, putting images into categories, image annotation, collecting data, and more.

This is called crowdsourcing and if you’ve ever heard of Amazon Mechanical Turk it’s basically the same kind of thing, except Remotasks is much less well known.

Remotasks is based in San Francisco, CA United States, but ironically they don’t accept workers from the USA. They only seem to accept workers from developing countries like Mexico, Kenya, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc.

They are definitely a legit microtask website as thousands of freelance workers do get paid every week. However, the average hourly earnings is only $1.50 to $2.50 and so unless you live in a developing country this may not be worth your time.

If doing boring tasks for low pay doesn’t sound like your cup of tea then check out my Favorite “Get-Paid-To” Sites which are sites that offer more fun ways to earn such as playing games, watching ads, taking surveys, and more.

How Remotasks REALLY Works

Registration & Account Verification

Signing up to become a worker is 100% free available to These Select Countries. These are mostly developing countries, if you’re from countries like USA, Canada, Australia, UK, then unfortunately you won’t be able to join.

If you’re outside their accepted countries then I recommend you see my Favorite “Get-Paid-To” Sites instead.

To register for a new Remotasks account you’ll need to have a Facebook account with an email address connected to it. Then you’ll need to verify your email and then your mobile number by entering a 6-digit SMS code.

Entrance Exam

Before you get to work on tasks you have to first pass an entrance exam for the category of which the tasks belong to. So for example if you want to transcribe audio, you’ll have to pass an exam for the audio transcription category.

There are many categories and you won’t get to work on tasks until you passed the exam for that category.

If you failed the exam you can retake it up to 3 times in total.

Once you’ve passed the exam for that category tasks will become available for you to do.

What Kind of Tasks Are Available?

Although many of the tasks don’t require any specialized skill or special knowledge, they’re typically very repetitive and boring work. Some examples of tasks include:

  • Audio Transcription – Typing what you hear in an audio clip into words
  • Categorization – Putting images into their respective categories
  • Collecting data – Finding specific information on the web
  • Image transcription – Looking at a picture and writing down what it is
  • Image annotation – drawing circles/boxes around objects in a picture to identify them

These tasks pay on average of $1 to $6 (USD) depending on difficulty and the time it takes to complete it.

Once you’ve completed a task it will get reviewed for accuracy, if you’ve done a good job then they will approve it and you will get paid your earnings into your account.

If these tasks sound boring to you then check out my Favorite Extra Income Sites instead which are “get-paid-to” sites that pay you to take surveys, play games, watch videos, read emails, and more.

Getting Banned For Poor Work

You shouldn’t just rush through the tasks because if you complete the tasks incorrectly your accuracy score will suffer.

Every time you complete and submit a task you will get rated based on how accurate your work is.

If your work is consistently of low quality and/or if you take too long to complete the tasks, you can actually get banned permanently from being able to work on anymore tasks!

How Much Can You Earn Monthly?

The short answer is “not much.” It really depends on how fast and accurate you’re able to complete tasks.

Even top Remotaskers who work 40 hours a week are only making around $50 to $100, so that’s $200 to $400 a month (USD) working full time hours! Like I’ve said before, unless you live in a developing country this kind of pay is not worth the time.

If you do the math you’ll realize that you are earning somewhere around $1.50 to $2.50 (USD) per hour on average which is well below the minimum wage for any developed country.

If you want to make $1000+ a month you should see my Top Work At Home Recommendation instead.

Make $10 By Referring Friends

You can earn a $10 referral bonus if a friend joins under your Remotasks referral link and earns $10 on their first pay week. There’s no limit to how many friends you can invite, so this is a great way to earn some easy income.

By “friends” I just mean anyone really, you don’t actually have to know the person, as long as they sign up through your referral link then you will get credit for it.

A lot of people share their referral code on websites like Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, or on their own blog.

How Do You Get Paid?

Remotasks pay out once every week on Friday via PayPal.

There are no withdraw fees by Remotasks but PayPal does charge a 2% fee on your earnings.

The best thing is that there are no minimum withdrawal amounts. Regardless of how little hours you worked, you will get paid for anything you’ve earned in that week.

Who Can Benefit From Remotasks?

If you’re from a developing country where the average monthly wage is $200 to $400 then you can actually do Remotasks full time (40 hours a week) and make a pretty good living.

Other than that, I honestly cannot see anyone else benefiting from a site like this. If you’re from a country where the minimum wage is let’s say $10 an hour, why would you work on Remotasks for $1.50 to $2.50 an hour?

I guess if you’ve lost your job or something and you’re desperate to pay some bills then yeah, this would be an option.

But for most people looking to earn a little extra income online you’re better off joining These Top “Get-Paid-To” Sites instead because the earning potential is about the same, but the tasks are a lot less repetitive and more fun to do.

If you’re looking for a more serious type of income then see my Top Work At Home Recommendation to learn how to make $1000+ a month online with a blogging business.

The Positives

  • Free to become a worker
  • Lots of different types of tasks available
  • Work as much or as little as you want
  • They pay with Paypal weekly which is very convenient and fast
  • No minimum payment threshold

The Negatives

  • Not available in most western countries
  • Earn well below minimum wage
  • Tasks are very boring and repetitive
  • You need to pass an entrance exam for each task category
  • If your work isn’t accurate enough or if you take too much time to complete tasks then you risk getting banned from being able to take on anymore specific task

Is Remotasks a Legit Opportunity?

Yes, Remotasks is a legit opportunity to earn a VERY small income doing boring and repetitive tasks.

Honestly I wouldn’t expect to make anymore than $1.50 to $2.50 per hour doing this, and I don’t know why anyone in a developed country would waste their time for that low pay.

Remotasks and other similar crowdsourcing platforms all pay very low because these tasks can be done by anyone and no special skill is required. But if you’re okay with a small income then my Favorite “Get-Paid-To” Sites would be a better way to go since they offer tasks that are much more enjoyable to do.

For those who are looking to make $1,000+ monthly online I recommend you visit my Top Work At Home Recommendation where I’ll show you how to build a blogging business that can generate a part time or full time passive income online.

All though it seems like not a lot of money in our western world, converted to another currency the money probably isn’t to bad. Well better work that being a slave just to feed themselves like many third world countries are. I think it great that offers like this can be presented worldwide, and people who do get involved can quickly learn the earning power online and have a opportunity to develop with their countries. I’d be jealous like:)

    Cheers Rob

Sometimes I wish I live in a developing country so that I can earn $400 a month on a site like Remotasks and be doing well.

I have experience with crowdsourcing platforms and they’re really only good for those who want pocket cash, but there’s really noway someone could turn it (working on crowdsourcing platforms) into full-time income. At least Remotasks is legit though, but the pay is really low. If anything, people should just focus on referring others to Remotasks, but even then it’s only a one-time referral fee, but at least it’s a bit more generous.

If you have a large audience you can actually make $1000+ a month with their referral program. You just need lots and lots of social media followers or a lot of traffic on your blog though.

But I know of some people who makes like $5000 a month by referring others to join a site (not Remotasks specifically). They way they do it is by Starting a Blogging Business and growing their audience to the point where they’re getting lots of traffic and conversions every single day.

It takes a while, but once you start making income it’s all passive and you earn money 24/7 with all the time and location freedom in the world.

What I find incredible is these offers pay such small amounts and give no-one the opportunity to become successful online.

It feels almost slave like to attempt to get people to do these tasks and get paid a pittance.

I had a look at your other ways to create income and success and will be pursuing this immediately after I finish here and thank you for sharing such a great recommendation

I can only hope if I work hard and learn the skills needed success will be mine. This is definitely something worthy of my time

    You rock

      Hey Vicki,

yeah they’re definitely taking advantage of people who are desperate to make some quick and easy money online. Unlike “get-paid-to” sites where tasks are more fun to do like playing games, watching videos, joining offers, etc. the tasks at Remotasks are boring and repetitive and definitely nobody is gonna do these things like audio transcription for fun!
