earn cash doing online tasks

Remotasks is a website that connect workers (people like you and me) with employers who are looking to get small jobs done. These jobs/tasks can be things like audio transcription, putting images into categories, image annotation, collecting data, and more.

This is called crowdsourcing and if you’ve ever heard of Amazon Mechanical Turk it’s basically the same kind of thing, except Remotasks is much less well known.

Remotasks is based in San Francisco, CA United States, but anybody from around the world can become a worker.

Did you know you can also earn extra income online by taking surveys, watching videos, playing games, and more on “get-paid-to” sites like Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, or Cash Crate? These tasks pay similar to crowdsourcing tasks, but they’re a lot more FUN!

How Remotasks REALLY Works

Registration & Entrance Exam

Signing up to become a worker is 100% free, and anyone globally can join. You do need to have to have a Facebook account because you have to use it to register for a new Remotasks account.

Before you get to work on tasks you have to first pass an entrance exam for the category of which the tasks belong to. So for example if you want to transcribe audio, you’ll have to pass an exam for the audio transcription category.

There are many categories and you won’t get to work on tasks until you passed the exam for that category.

What Kind of Tasks Are Available?

Although many of the tasks don’t require any specialized skill or special knowledge, they’re typically very repetitive and boring work. Some examples of tasks include:

  • Audio Transcription – Typing what you hear in an audio clip into words
  • Categorization – Putting images into their respective categories
  • Collecting data – Finding specific information on the web
  • Image transcription – Looking at a picture and writing down what it is
  • Image annotation – drawing circles/boxes around objects in a picture to identify them

If these tasks sound boring to you then check out Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate instead which are “get-paid-to” sites that pay you to take surveys, play games, watch videos, read emails, and more.

How Much Can You Earn?

The short answer is “not much.” You get paid based on how many tasks you’re able to complete properly.

If you’re looking for part time or full time income it’s not going to work because the typical hourly pay for most tasks is somewhere around $1-$2. Some tasks pay more but they are more complicated and require more time to complete.

How Do You Get Paid?

You can get paid via Paypal once your earnings have reached a minimum of $5.00.

They pay out once every week on Tuesday morning Pacific Time.

Getting Banned For Poor Work

You shouldn’t just rush through the tasks because if you complete the tasks incorrectly your accuracy score will suffer.

Every time you complete and submit a task you will get rated based on how accurate your work is. If your work is consistently of low quality and/or if you take too long to complete the tasks, you can actually get banned permanently from being able to work on anymore tasks!

The Positives

  • Free to become a worker and anyone globally can join
  • Lots of different types of tasks available
  • Work as much or as little as you want
  • They pay with Paypal weekly which is very convenient and fast

The Negatives

  • Very low pay for most tasks
  • Tasks are very boring and repetitive
  • You need to pass an entrance exam for each task category
  • If your work isn’t accurate enough or if you take too much time to complete tasks then you risk getting banned from being able to take on anymore specific task

Is Remotasks a Legit Opportunity?

Yes, Remotasks is a legit opportunity to earn a VERY small income doing boring and repetitive tasks. Honestly I wouldn’t expect to make anymore than $1-$2 per hour doing this, and I don’t know why anyone would waste their time for that low pay.

Remotasks and other similar crowdsourcing platforms all pay very low because these tasks can be done by anyone and no special skill is required. But if you’re okay with a small income then “get-paid-to” sites like Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate would be a better way to go since they offer tasks that are much more enjoyable to do.
