Freelancing is a pretty good and legit way to earn money online these days, and there are many sites you can join which connects you to the right type of online freelance jobs. PeoplePerHour is a site that brings together freelance workers (sellers) and people who need to hire workers for a project (buyers.)
But unfortunately where there’s money, there are thieves and scammers. So is PeoplePerHour a scam or legit? How does it all work? How much can you earn and how do you get paid? Are they worth joining? I’ll answer these and much more in this PeoplePerHour review.
Want To Make Extra Income Online But
Tired of Running Into Scams?
Type: Freelance work online
Membership Price: $0 for freelance workers
PeoplePerHour is a freelancing platform that started up back in 2007, they’re based in London, UK but anyone internationally can sign up and it’s free to do so. It’s pretty easy to get started, but the earning potential is not great. Your main struggle will be that there’s lots of competition for jobs, and making a full time income doing this is unlikely.
If you’re looking for a genuine full time online income opportunity, consider looking into building your own website business. It requires some time and hard work, but you’ll make way more in the long run. Or if you’re just looking to make some quick cash, then these “get-paid-to” sites might suit you better.
How PeoplePerHour REALLY Works
How To Join PeoplePerHour?
Anyone can sign up, you just have to register and create a new account with either your email or with your social media account. Once you have an account and logged in you’ll have to fill out an application form.
The application form is basically your portfolio, there are sections where you’ll need to fill in your bio, upload an image of yourself, listing your skill sets, your job title, how much you charge hourly, any references, proof of your qualifications, and other things that let potential clients know more about you.
How To Start Working On Jobs?
You can click on “browse jobs” to see available jobs that suits your skill sets, you can send the client a “proposal” which is like a bid, if you get chosen then you can start working on that job. You can also list your own job offering with whatever price you want to charge and have the clients come to you.
What Kind Of Jobs Does PeoplePerHour Offer?
There are online jobs that range from content writing, photo editing, graphic design, virtual assistant, transcribing audio, to many other things. As a freelancer you’ll be working for clients, but they’re technically not your boss and so you work for yourself. The freelancing jobs you’ll find at PeoplePerHour includes both one-time and ongoing projects.
After you have completed a job, the client has the ability to rate you from 1-5 with a star-rating system and also provide a written review of your quality of work. All this can be viewed by potential clients looking to hire freelancers. Obviously if your rating dips too low then nobody will want to hire you and your earning opportunities will shrink.
Beware of Competition
Keep in mind that your biggest issue here is competition with other freelancers. It may be very difficult for newbies on the platform to land a job initially because clients will be more likely to choose freelancers with lots of star-reviews and past experience. Many jobs have up to 20-30 bids, and if you have no experience then you won’t have an edge over anybody.
How Much Can You Earn?
Although getting your first job may be tough due to having no experience, everybody has to start somewhere and if you try hard enough eventually you will probably be successful.
How much you earn depends on the project, for example you can be paid $14/hr to work as an ongoing virtual assistant, or maybe you could take on a one-time project for a set fee of $300.
Top freelancers at PeoplePerHour can make quite a bit of money, some even work full time from home as a freelancer. But these top dogs have hundreds of positive reviews from past work experience on the platform, this gives them more exposure and opportunities to pick up more work. As a newbie you’ll have none of these things so it’ll be much harder to land jobs.

How Do You Get Paid?
When the client needs to hire freelancers for a job, they have to pay up front into an Escrow account. This offers the freelancers payment protection, you don’t have to worry about the client just disappearing without paying after you submit your work.
After your work has been submitted and approved by the client, the payment in the Escrow account will be released into your PeoplePerHour account. From there you can make a cash out via either bank transfer or Paypal, after requesting payout you should receive the money in a few days.
20% Handling Fee
It doesn’t cost any money to join PeoplePerHour or to list and browse jobs, but PeoplePerHour takes a 20% cut out of your earnings up to the first $600 you make in the month, after that the fee drops down to only 5%.
Is PeoplePerHour a Scam?
PeoplePerHour is definitely not a scam, they’re actually one of the top freelancing websites out there today and you can find plenty of positive testimonials on many forums. That being said, making it as a freelancer is not easy and as a newbie on the platform you’ll likely need to get very lucky to land those first few jobs to start building your reputation.
Even if you manage to get job opportunities, many of them aren’t very high paying at all. $10-$14/hr jobs are common, and if you’re looking for bigger and better opportunities then see my #1 Recommended Way of Making Money Online instead where you can earn 5-6 figures with a website business.
