Opinion Outpost Review: Scam or Legit Paying Survey Site?

take online surveys and get paid

Name: Opinion Outpost
Website: www.opinionoutpost.com
Type: Paid survey site
Membership Price: Free to join
My Rating: 2.5 out of 5

If you’re someone who likes to share your opinion, your likes, your dislikes, your turn ons, your turn offs, you may be delighted to know that there are sites on the internet that actually pays you to do it.

Opinion Outpost is one of those sites, they’re a survey site and they pay people to fill out their surveys.

Why would anyone care what you think much less pay you for it? Well, because there are companies out there who can use the opinions of their target customer base to improve their products and services, and their customer base who answers their surveys get paid, so both parties can benefit from this.

So is Opinion Outpost a scam or a legit way to earn some dough on the side? In this Opinion Outpost review I’m going to go over who they are, ways to earn on the site, how do you get paid, whether they’re a scam or legit, and whether they’re worth your time or not.

If you’re someone looking to make a part time or full time income online, then it’s not going to be worth your time, because the unfortunately truth is these things pay just enough for a few cups of joe at Benz Coffee every month or so. What Is Opinion Outpost About?

earn cash rewards for doing surveys

There are literally 1000’s and 1000’s of paid online survey sites on the internet these days, but Opinion Outpost is one of the more well-known ones. They’re a market research company that’s been around since Jan 1st 2009, they’re based in Shelton, Connecticut, and they allow ordinary folks like you and me to make some money doing their surveys.

Opinion Outpost is what I call a “totally pure” survey site, meaning surveys is the exclusive way to earn. I prefer sites like Swagbucks instead where in addition to surveys you can also earn watching videos, searching the web, doing offers, and much more. This gives you a higher earning potential per site, and also surveys are kind of boring in my view and I’d rather earn playing games and watching videos!

Earning Money: How Does It All Work?

Completing Surveys

The main way to earn at Opinion Outpost is by doing their surveys. These surveys are not created by Opinion Outpost themselves, they are from companies who are looking for opinions from their target consumer base. Opinion Outpost is just a 3rd party hired by these companies to do market research by offering their surveys to the right people.

How Do You Start Earning?

It’s free to join. Just sign up for an account with your email, and then log in and go to your members section and fill out your profile. The profile questions will be things like your age, where you live, how many people you live with, your interests, hobbies..etc these things will be used to determine if a survey is the right fit for you.

After you have completed your profile, you’re ready to start earning. When there’s a survey that requires people in your demographics, you will be notified and invited to fill it out via email. You’ll know beforehand how much that survey pays and how long it is. After you’ve completed the survey you’ll be rewarded with points which can later be redeemed for cash.

How Much Can You Earn?

This depends on how many surveys you fill out. For every survey you complete you’ll receive points which can then be redeemed for cash. Each point is worth $0.10 and you’ll need 100 points to make a cash out. How many points each survey pays depends on it’s length and time required to do it.

How Many Surveys Can You Do?

Unfortunately it really depends on your demographics and whether you’re the right fit for many surveys or not. I’ve found many user reviews online complaining about not receiving very many surveys.

In my own experience with online surveys in general, I can tell you what typically happens with online survey sites is that you’ll receive quite a few survey invites via email, but those only lead to unpaid pre-qualifying surveys which is to see if you’re the right fit for the actual paid survey, and most of the time you won’t qualify.

Yeah, how frustrating! This is why I think online surveys are a waste of time.

Additional Ways To Earn

They do have a referral program where you can earn $1 for every friend that signs up through your referral link. But unfortunately they put a $5 cap maximum on how much you can earn per referral. So from that one referral you only get to earn a maximum of $5, and they get to keep earning forever and ever. Sounds like they’re really greedy and don’t give a crap about you!

Did you know you can also earn money online by watching videos, playing games, trying new apps, and signing up for offers on GPT (get-paid-to) sites like SwagBucks (read review)?

How Do You Get Paid?

When it comes to getting paid, I don’t understand how some sites still only allow payment by check only. I mean, what year are we in? People are not going to want a slow ass check mailed to them. Good news is Opinion Outpost pays via Paypal and not a slow ass check. You can also get a payout in the form of Amazon or iTune gift cards.

Although there is a minimum amount of earnings that you must reach before they’ll allow you to cash out your earnings. The minimum payout threshold is once you’ve earned at least 100 points or $10 Paypal cash equivalent. You may need fewer points if you choose to get gift cards instead, usually starting at around $5 or so.

The Good

  • They pay via Paypal which is very convenient
  • They minimum payout threshold is only $10 for Paypal ($5 for Amazon gift card), this is pretty low compared to other sites usually with a $25 to $50 minimum

The Complaints

  • Many users complain about not being offered enough surveys
  • Most email survey invites only lead to an unpaid pre-qualifying survey
  • Hard to qualify for the actual paid survey
  • Lots of negative reviews online from people saying they’ve been ripped off points
  • Only allow sign ups from people in the US
  • They limit your referral earnings to $5 per referral, so they get to keep earning from your referrals, but you don’t…

Final Verdict: Scam or Legit?

In my research there are both good and negative user reviews on Opinion Outpost, and so it’s not really quite clear cut on whether it’s a scam or not. Some people seem really happy with their experience, while others swear it’s a rip off.

But there seems to be more complains than the good, so take that however you like. I wouldn’t say it’s a scam, but I’d recommend you join Swagbucks (read review) or these top get-paid-to sites instead to make money.

At the end of the day you’re not paying any money to Opinion Outpost to join them, so that’s a good thing as you can’t lose what you don’t put in. But then again time is money to many people, and I’d rather choose to put my time to a better money making endeavor.

Online survey sites like Opinion Outpost are not a viable way to earn any serious money, they’re good for chump change at best.
