If you’re a freelance writer looking for online work, Writer Access may appear to be a good option. They are a site/platform that connects writers and people who need content created, the writers get paid for their work if the clients are happy.
But is Writer Access another time wasting scam or are they a legit way to earn money writing? In this Writer Access review I’ll go over exactly how it works, how they pay, some problems I found with the site, and my final opinion on whether this company is worth working for or not.
Writer Access Review
Name: Writer Access
Type: Get paid to write
Membership Price: No cost
My Rating: 2.9 out of 5
Writer Access’s parent company is ideaLaunch, a firm based in Boston MA that specializes in content marketing and they’ve been around since 1999. Writer Access hires freelance writers to write, edit, and/or translate content for their clients.
In this Writer Access review I gave them a 2.9 out of 5, they appear to be scam free but this is only a supplemental income opportunity. They have a rating scale for writers, new writers will likely have a lower rating which makes it hard to get enough work that pays well. But if you do a good job consistently then you can rise the ranks and make more.
Earning Money – How Does Writer Access Work?
You can start earning money as soon as Writer Access approves your job application and hires you. You get paid by the word, and you can check out what jobs are available to you on the Word Job Board. They’ll tell you exactly what the job is, what keywords to use, how much it pays, and how much time you’ll have to complete it.
You don’t get paid immediately after you complete the job, there is a 14 day period where the client can either approve or reject your work, and only if they approve it then you’ll get paid.
If the client likes your work then they may add you to their “love list” which means they may want to work with you again in the future if there’s more work available.
You can log in everyday to check the Job Board, but Writer Access will also send you job notifications by email. You’ll also be notified if any of the previous clients you’ve done work for and has you on their “love list” has new work available .

Or if building a website sounds like too much work for you then there’s also sites like Swagbucks and Inbox Pays where you can make some quick extra cash that doesn’t involve have to write or deal with clients.
Getting Hired By Writer Access
To sign up to Writer Access all you’ll need is your email and password, currently only USA residents can join.
To get hired as a freelance writer and start earning you’ll need to submit a resume, fill out your profile with some personal information, provide a writing sample, and explain why you want to to be a writer for Writer Access.
The writing sample that you provide will be used to determine your writing skill level which will influence your pay grade.
How Long Does Approval Take?
Once you have submitted all the information they’ll get back to you within a few weeks. If they decide they want to hire you, then they’ll approve your application and let you know via email.
After you’ve been hired you’ll also get your initial star-rating (from 2 to 6 stars) which determines how much you’ll get paid per word, and from there you can just begin working by logging in.
Earning Potential / Star-Rating System
When you first join you’ll be assigned with a star-rating number from 2 to 6. The higher the number the more you can earn per word. Your star-rating is determined by a couple of factors such as performance, experience, and client reviews.
In the beginning you may be assigned a low star-rating, but as you submit high quality work over time your rating can increase along with your earning potential.
Here in this screen shot you can see how much you can get paid per word based on each level in the star-rating system:
As a new writer you’ll likely start with lower number of stars like 2 or 3. If you are a 2-star writer then you’ll only word $0.007 per word which translate to $7 per article that is 1,000 word in length…compare that to a 6-star writer who will earn $140 for an article of the same length!
That earning potential difference between 2 stars and 6 stars is massive, and this is why unless you can get up to the higher stars your earning potential will be very low.
What If You Want To Earn More?
If you don’t like the idea of your earning potential being limited by a star-rating system then perhaps you can write for yourself by building your own blogging business where your earning potential is limitless.
If making a part time or supplemental online income is okay with you then there are more fun ways to earn money online besides writing. Sites like Swagbucks and Inbox Pays lets you earn by taking surveys, doing offers, reading emails, doing tasks, shopping, and more.
Getting Paid By Writer Access
You get paid with Paypal twice a week, on the 9th and the 22nd.
There is a minimum payout threshold of $10 you’ll need to meet before payment will be made to you. But even as a 2-star writer this threshold is pretty low and should be achieved easily.
Writer Access Advantages
Pay Is Not Bad
You can actually make some pretty good money if you have a high star-rating, you may even be able to make this your full time job making mid 5-figures a year. But getting to level 5 or 6 isn’t easy, it takes time to build up the score and consistently putting in high quality work.
Writer Access’s parent company is ideaLaunch which according to the Better Business Bureau has an A+ rating right now. This is a high indication that they are scam free and that if you earn money on this site then you will more than likely get paid, there is nothing to worry about here.
Writer Access Problems
14 Day Approval Period
After each job that you complete you’ll have to wait up to 14 days to see if your work has been approved or rejected, so if you’re in a rush to make money quickly then you may find this very frustrating.
Just Extra Income
Yes, you can make good money if you’re a 5 or 6 star writer, but this can take a year or longer to achieve.
If you’re a new writer then chances are you’ll be a 2 or 3 star writer and only earning a few dollars here and there. For many people Writer Access is just an extra income opportunity and it would be unwise to quit your job over it.
Final Word: Is Writer Access a Scam?
In my research I have found no red flags or signs that Writer Access is a scam, they appear to be a very legit site for USA residents to earn some money online. The only trouble is that work may be scarce and pay may be low when you first get started, but if you’re willing to pay your dues then this could turn into a real job somewhere down the line.
I recommend that you sign up for these extra income sites where you can also make a little extra income, but unlike Writer Access these sites offer more FUN and enjoyable ways to earn like playing games, watching videos, clicking ads, reading emails, doing tasks, and more.
