earn money doing tasks

I rated Fancy Hands 2.9 out of 5 and for the most part they’re a pretty good extra income site. Unfortunately you can only become a virtual assistant if you’re from the USA. But the good thing is that you don’t need any special skills or equipment to be a virtual assistant, you just need a computer with internet, a headset with microphone, and a phone to make calls.

So is this easy money waiting to happen or is there some kind of catch? Let’s find out how working for Fancy Hands as a virtual assistant REALLY works.

The TRUTH of How Fancy Hands Work

Signing Up / Requirements

Only people from the USA can sign up to work as a virtual assistant, BUT you can be a client (someone who pays to get things done) then you can be from anywhere. As an assistant you’ll need a computer, internet, a headset with microphone, and a phone.

To sign up they require that you have a Chrome browser and a Gmail account first. Once you have both you can sign up to be an assistant with your Google account and be taken through the application process which includes a variety of tests to ensure you know how to do basic internet research and that your English and grammar is good enough.

After you are done with the application you’ll have to wait 1-7 days for them to get back to you. If you’re approved then you can start working on tasks right away.

Examples of Tasks

There is a wide variety of tasks you can do, all of them are simple and are web-based that doesn’t require you to get up from your desk. Task examples include making phone calls to create or cancel an appointment/service, booking hotels and cars, finding specific shops in certain locations, doing research on Google, and data entry.

Here are a few possible task scenarios:

  • Can you make some phone calls to the stores in the zip code 90210 to see which one sells the new iPhone?
  • Can you call my cable company to have my monthly services cancelled? Here’s my account number
  • Can you book a hotel for me at this date? I need a hotel that’s relatively close to the airport and has access to shops and restaurants
  • Can you find me a cat sitter in the Vancouver, WA area that will watch my cat 5 nights a week? How much does that cost and are the schedules flexible?
  • Can you find me an online beer company that sells Mirror Pond Beer and order to have 4 cases shipped to my home?

More Ways To Earn

If Fancy Hands tasks don’t sound good to you then maybe you’d like to forget about them and check out these top “get-paid-to” sites instead where you can earn cash by doing things you’re already doing now unpaid, such as watching TV advertisements, clicking ads, giving your opinion, searching the web, and more.

How Much Can You Earn?

Fancy Hands pay their assistants $3 to $7 per task, but you’ll only get paid if the client approves of the work. Obviously this can be problematic to you if the client for whatever reason decides your work isn’t good enough and not approve it. You’ll be relying on the honestly of the clients feedback to get paid.

How much you earn depends on how fast you can get tasks done and how many tasks are available. There’s no limit to how many tasks you can take on. Fancy Hands assistants on forums have reported to make around $12 per hour. Tasks seem to average around 20 minutes to complete.

You may be surprised at how long it could take to cancel an appointment at a hotel or something similar. Sometimes you’ll have to be on hold for a long time, you’ll have to get through to different people, hand over any account and/or relevant information, and all this could easy exceed 20 minutes per task.

Getting Paid – Payment Methods

The only payment method right now is Dwolla which is a site that provides people in the USA with online payment systems. It appears that they used to offer Paypal payments as well but for some reason took it away, so now it’s just Dwolla.

I generally prefer sites that offer more than one payment method, other sites like Swagbucks offer Paypal payments, Visa prepaid cards, Amazon and other gift card options.

If you don’t like Dwolla and prefer Paypal then I recommend you check out these extra income sites that pay with Paypal.

Fancy Hands Advantages

Work For Yourself, Be Your Own Boss

Isn’t that the whole appeal of working online? No more putting up with an angry boss, customers, and/or co-workers with an attitude, no more waking up at 6am, no more annoying daily commute, no more pretending to like people you don’t really like.

With Fancy Hands you get to work at home on your own schedule, your commute is from your bed to your home office across the room or hallway. If you want to work in your underwear or pajamas you can do that!

Fancy Hands Problems

No International Acceptance

If you’re outside the USA then unfortunately you can’t be an assistant. If you are not in the USA but would like to earn a part time or full time income then check out my #1 Recommended Way of Making Money Online instead.

Low Paying Tasks

Don’t expect to live a ballin lifestyle as an assistant, the pay varies based on many factors but it seems to average around $12 per hour. The tasks pay $3-$7 which may seem high paying especially if the tasks are to make a quick phone call.

But a “quick” phone call can easily turn into a 30-40 minute job if you’re calling a busy company and have to be put on hold for multiple periods of time during the phone call.

Dwolla Is The Only Payment Method

If you’re like me then you consider Paypal the golden standard for getting online payments, due to their long standing reputation as legitimate. Unfortunately Fancy Hands only pay with Dwolla and nothing else.

While I’m sure Dwolla is a good payment system, many people may not trust them due to the fact they’re not as well known as Paypal. If you’d rather get paid with Paypal then see these extra income sites that pay with Paypal.

You’re At The Mercy of Clients

When you complete a task you don’t get paid automatically, your work will have to be approved by the client first before you get your money. This can cause problems because while most clients are honest, there will be people who just don’t want to pay and make up an excuse to not approve you.

Is Fancy Hands Worth Joining?

Fancy Hands appears to be a totally legit way to make extra income online. There are no red flags or scam complaints that I’ve found. That being said, legit sites doesn’t mean they’re perfect.

As a Fancy Hands assistant you’ll most likely be making minimum wage on this site. Also it’s unfortunate they don’t make Paypal payments because they’re trusted everywhere, so you’ll have to deal with Dwolla.

If doing online research and making phone calls doesn’t suit you, then check out other extra income sites like Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate. These sites are very low paying, but they’re legit and their tasks are a lot more fun to do.
