Who doesn’t have an opinion these days? Whether that opinion be of something political like what variety of guinea pig Trump got his toupee from, or something more trivial like whether they’d prefer Britney Spears as a blonde or brunette.

Opinions are given everywhere, especially on the internet. People like to let other people know what they think, but what if you actually got paid for doing it?

Websites like American Consumer Opinion does just that, or so they say. I mean, there are plenty of scams on the internet so you gotta do some research before signing up to avoid wasting your time and energy.

Is American Consumer Opinion a scam or legit? My no BS review below will fill you in on everything you’d need to know to make your final decision. I’ll talk about what American Consumer Opinion does, how you can make money, how you’d get paid, the pros, and the cons.

What Is American Consumer Opinion About?

get paid to answer online surveys

American Consumer Opinion (aka ACOP) is a market research company that pays people to give their opinions via their online surveys. They’ve been around since 1986 and started out way before the internet. Back then they used to survey people via telephone or snail mail.

It wasn’t until 1996 that they went online and began offering surveys digitally. Through the years they have offered surveys to millions of people worldwide.

They only offer surveys as a way to earn on their site, and this to me feels really limiting. Personally I prefer get-paid-to sites like Swagbucks (read review) instead where there’s plenty more ways to earn (surveys, offers, games, videos, searching, shopping, and more!)

Earning Money: How Does It All Work?

Doing Surveys

So how do paid surveys work exactly? There are companies and corporations who want to know what their target consumer base thinks about their products and services, so they hire market research companies like American Consumer Opinion (ACOP) to find out.

ACOP then finds people who fits a certain criteria and offers them surveys asking them about those products and services. When the companies and corporations pays ACOP, part of that money goes to paying the people who partook in doing those surveys.

Getting Started

It’s completely free to join and all you need is to be is over 14 years of age and have a working email address. In the signing up process they will ask you to fill out a profile survey that will ask you for things like your age, gender, income, whether you rent or own a home, education level, what you do for work, and other questions that will help to determine whether you’re the right fit for a survey or not.

How Much Can You make?

The short answer is not much. The long answer is noooooot muuuuuuuch. But all kidding aside, it really is not much.

You can expect to be invited to do surveys a couple times a year, but that doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed a paid survey. You see, they’ll first ask you to do a screener survey to determine if you’re the right fit for the survey, the problem is that you’ll rarely qualify, so you’ll end up wasting so much time doing these screener surveys.

Good news is if you don’t qualify you’ll still receive 5 to 50 points or an entry into a prize draw, so not all is lost.

The pay is also very low relative to the time spent doing it. The time it takes to complete a survey varies, but usually around 10-30 minutes, the longer it is the more it pays. So for a survey 10-20 minutes long you may be rewarded with up to 50 points, surveys longer than 20 minutes may pay up to 100 to 5000 points.

How Much Are These Points Worth?

Again, not much. Each point is worth only a penny. You’ll need to earn at least a minimum of 1000 points before you’re allowed to redeem those points for cash.

Other Ways To Earn

They do have a referral program where for every friend you invite you’ll be entered into a monthly prize draw where the winner takes 5000 points.

Did You Know?

You could also do paid surveys on GPT (get-paid-to) websites such as They’re different from survey sites like ACOP because in addition to surveys you’ll also get opportunities to earn by doing other things like watching video clips, playing games, shopping, and more.

How Do You Get Paid?

As previously mentioned, there is a minimum payout threshold of 1000 points ($10 equivalent), once you have reached the threshold you can request to have your earnings paid out to you in a variety of ways such as check, cash via Paypal and HyperWallet, sweepstakes tickets, or you can even choose to donate your earnings to a charity.

  • They’ve been around since the pre-internet days, this is a strong indicator they’re legit as scams don’t tend to last this long
  • Their parent company Decision Analyst Inc currently enjoy a A- rating with the Better Business Bureau
  • Anyone in the world can become a member
  • They pay via Paypal and other methods which are very convenient

  • Not enough surveys to do, you’ll only get a survey invite a few times a year
  • You likely won’t qualify for the surveys you’re invited to do
  • You won’t be able to make any serious money, maybe $10 every few months at most

Final Verdict: Scam or Legit?

I’m very confident that American Consumer Opinion is not a scam, they’re a legit operation that’s been around for decades. But I still do not recommend them to people who are looking to make money online, because online surveys in general are a waste of time.

It will take you forever just to cash out that first $10, and that’s great if you’re 12 and looking to save up for a bicycle, but not if you’re an adult hoping to make some online part time or full time income.

If a small extra income is all you’re looking for then American Consumer Opinion is fine, but I still prefer Swagbucks (read review) over them because they offer way more methods to earn, therefore your earning potential have a higher ceiling.
