What Is Herbalife?

Herbalife is a MLM (multi-level marketing) company that specializes in selling health and wellness products.

This company started up back in 1970 by Mark Hughes who initially started selling stuff out of the trunk of his car, but now today it has turned into a giant corporation that operates in over 90 countries worldwide.

What Products Does Herbalife Sell?

Herbalife is a pretty big MLM company in the health and wellness niche and they carry many different products. When this company first began they had many weight management products and still do today, but they have expanded their line of products tremendously.

Here are the different types of products they currently provide, all fitting in the the health and wellness category:

  • Weight Management – Protein shake mixes, bars, meal replacements, customized meal plans, etc.
  • Nutritional Supplements – Vitamin capsules for heart health, women’s health, men’s health, etc.
  • Energy & Fitness – Energy drink mixes with ingredients like caffeine, ginseng, L-taurine, vitamins, etc.
  • Skin & Body Care – Aloe gels, body creams, sunscreen, shampoo, hand and body wash, etc.

Herbalife products are sold exclusively through their Independent Distributors, this means you won’t be able to buy them at retail stores like Walmart or anywhere else.

The only places you can buy Herbalife products is if you know someone who’s selling them and buy it off of them. Or you could visit Herbalife’s website and they’ll be able to connect you with a random distributor.

It also appears that some of their distributors are selling Herbalife products on Amazon, so that’s another place to get it from.

Become a Distributor Of Herbalife Products

If you’re interested in making money with Herbalife you can sign up as an Independent Distributor, this way you can become eligible to promote Herbalife products and earn commissions from selling them. You won’t be working for Herablife, you’re just an independent business owner.

If the person who told you about Herbalife is already a distributor then you can just sign up through them. Or you can sign up directly at Herbalife’s website, if you don’t have a sponsor they will introduce you to one.

To begin you’ll need to purchase either the International Business Pack ($94.10) or the Super Starter International Business Pack ($124.10). These packs contain discounted products, training materials, and the eligibility to start promoting Herbalife products and earn commissions.

Herbalife’s Compensation Plan

Once you’ve become an Herbalife Independent Distributor and have received your startup kit you’ll have several ways to earn money which I’ll briefly go over below. Their compensation plan can look intimidating and hard to understand so I’ll do my best to explain it in laymen’s terms.

Basically there are two main ways to earn:

  • Direct Sales – You’ll have access to distributor pricing which offers a 25% to 50% discount, you sell it to customers at retail price and the difference is your profit
  • Recruiting – Invite others to become distributors, you earn commissions from the sales of people you recruit.

In addition there are plenty of huge bonuses, vacation trip incentives, and other prizes that can be achieved by reaching certain levels of sales volume by yourself and your downline. You can learn more by visiting Herbalife’s full compensation plan.

If you’re having trouble understanding how it all works, here’s a video that may do a better job at explaining it:

Is Herbalife a Pyramid Scheme?

No, Herbalife is actually known as a MLM (multi-level marketing) business, it is similar to a pyramid scheme but not exactly the same thing. MLMs are legit and legal while pyramid schemes are not.

The key difference is that with MLMs you’ll be able to earn by selling products as well as by recruiting a downline, with pyramid schemes there are no products of any kind and the only way to earn is by constantly recruiting new blood. It’s easy to see how pyramid schemes will collapse in the long run, and most people at the bottom will lose money.

Since Herbalife has a product line of health and wellness products for you to sell, they are clearly in the MLM category and not a pyramid scheme. In fact, with Herbalife you CAN’T earn by only recruiting new distributors, you HAVE to sell products to earn.

But even though they’re legit, I’d highly advise against starting any MLM business because it’s a tough way to make money and most people fail.

Will You Make Money With Herbalife?

If you check out Herbalife’s Statement of Average Gross Compensation you’ll see that most of their distributors are making basically chump change. Yes, a very small portion of distributors are making some serious cash, but most people are making pretty much below minimum wage.

how much can i earn in a typical month
Herbalife’s Statement of Average Gross Compensation

In the above screenshot you can see that in a typical month 50% of their distributors earned more than $140-$315. It’s a little big vague as I don’t know exactly how much more than $140-$315 are they making.

Also I don’t know how many hours the average distributor is putting into their business. Let’s assume someone is earning $500 a month part time, and putting in 20 hours/week, it only works out to be about $5/hr which is below minimum wage.

Also notice that the other 50% of their distributors made LESS than $140-$315 in a typical month. Yikes!

Sure, if you make it to the top 1% it’ll be pretty sweet as you’ll be making $14,100 per month, but it takes between 5-11 years to reach that level through lots of hard work and SKILL. Two skills you definitely need is in networking and marketing.

Basically you gotta know how to reach a large amount of people, you can’t just rely on promoting to your friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. You’ve got to build a big list of contacts and be able to sell people Herablife’s products or convince them to sign up as a distributor.

Without any major networking and marketing skills you’ll be earning chump change at best.

If you’re not comfortable with all this MLM stuff then I recommend you see my Top Work At Home Recommendation instead where I’ll show you how to make a full time income with an online blogging business. No selling or recruiting required!

Is Herbalife a Scam Or Legit?

Herbalife is definitely a legit MLM company, but their business opportunity is not something that I’d want to be involved with or recommend to others.

From reading Herbalife’s income disclosure it appears that most people are not making any real money.

Herbalife products are also priced on the higher end compared to other similar products, and this will make it tough for you to sell. That’s why the real opportunity to make money with their opportunity comes from recruiting, something that many people are not able to do very well due to insufficient skills.

If you’re interested in building a profitable business, I’d recommend you stay away from MLMs and learn my #1 strategy below.

My #1 Strategy To Make Money Online

In my opinion MLMs are one of the toughest businesses to succeed in for the average person, so my advice is to stay away from that business model. If you want to build a business promoting health and wellness products, I recommend you build a website and make money with affiliate marketing instead.

It’s the same strategy I use to make money on this blog. What I do is I write review articles just like this one, I use SEO (search engine optimization) techniques to rank my pages on Google which will result in lots of free organic traffic for my website. I monetize that traffic by recommending other people’s products and services.

If this sounds interesting to you you can see my Top Work At Home Recommendation where I’ll explain more about affiliate marketing, how it works, why it works so well, how much you can earn, and a step-by-step guide on how to get started today for FREE.

I’ll also show you a top rated training platform that provides training course, classrooms, tools, resources, support, 1-on-1 coaching, and more. It’s the same platform I used when I first started to build this website you’re on right now.

My top recommendation is legit and does work, guys! But you have to be patient because it does take a lot of time to start making money with this method. Making a job-replacing level of income is absolutely possible, but not overnight, expect to work hard for at least 6-12 months before seeing any major results.

Waiting that long to see any income can be tough, that’s why I recommend you see my Favorite “Get-Paid-To” Sites which are sites that pay you real money to complete quick and simple tasks like answering surveys, watching advertisement videos, reading emails, and much more.

These “get-paid-to” sites are not meant to earn you a life changing amount of money, but they’re a fun way to earn some extra online income while your affiliate marketing website business is growing.

That’s it for this Herbalife review, I hope everything was helpful and you found what you were looking for. If you have anything you don’t understand or have your own experiences to share, let me know in the comments below.
