From the beginning of time everyone has always told you, “go to school, study hard, and get a job.” And then you keep your head down and go to work everyday until you retire at age 65 or whatever. Is that really what success means? I don’t believe so.
We’re in the age of the internet and YouTube, social media is blowing up like never before, and with this people can make money in all sorts of different ways never before possible. So do you need college to be successful? It depends.
What Do You Want?
If your life goal is to become a marine biologist, chances are you need a college degree. If your life goal is to be a life coach and inspire others to better their lives and improve their life circumstances, you can do this making videos on YouTube like this guy:
Personally I never wanted to do what everyone else is doing. I’ve always wanted to succeed doing something that is unique and my own. I don’t want to follow some beaten path and copy the sheeples.
Inspiring other people to get things done in life and stop procrastinating like Ralph from “Infinite Waters Diving Deep” is noble work and something that I secretly wish I can do. But I’m not a speaker, I’m inarticulate and I look stupid on camera. So what do I do? I started a blog and I’m now writing articles. I actually make some money blogging too, and my articles teaches people about how to make money working online from home.
What Is Success To You?
A lot of people would define success as having a good job, a big house, or having lots of money and fame. To me I just want freedom from “The Man.” I don’t want society to tell me that I need to wake up at 6am to go to a job I bloody hate. I don’t need some boss to grant me permission when I want to visit my mother for a few weeks.
So to me, success means being able to make money on my own terms. Currently I’m making money writing on 2 blogs. I also drop ship on Ebay and I play online poker. There are loads of ways to make money online, and doing so will grant me the freedom I need to do whatever I want, whenever I want, and to me this is success.
Is $2000 a Month Successful?
I just want to make enough to live comfortably, and enough left over to save for a rainy day. I don’t need anything fancy in life. Currently I rent a basement for $650 a month, I spend about $350 on food. If I can make at least $2000 a month working online from home, I’d make enough to live on and save $1000 a month. But $2000 a month isn’t success to a lot of people, it’s barely getting by. But my goal is freedom. I just want to make money online and be able to not have to work a real job. Obviously I wouldn’t mind making more money, but that’s not the main focus.
College & Education Are Separate Things
You may want bigger and better things, more cars, bigger houses, more women…etc And so everyone has different definitions of success. But what I want to say in this blog post is that I think education is important, especially the type of education where it will help you become successful.
Know Your Passion
I didn’t know how to build a website or how to make money from it just over a year ago. I went online and found a educational training platform called Wealthy Affiliate, I got educated from there and took what I’d learned to start creating blogs and making passive income from it.
So the bottom line is it depends on what you want to do in life. Many successful people are college drop outs (think many musicians, billionaires like Jack Ma and Bill Gates.) College is not the only source of education, and in many cases not the best source for what you’re seeking. In fact, many creative passions that you may want to pursue (starting a rock band, YouTube, blogging, affiliate marketing..etc) aren’t taught in courses in colleges. You need to find the education you need for what you’re pursuing, college may or may not be useful for that.
If your passion is writing and creating unique content while being able to make passive income from it, I suggest you to start a blog. I have written some posts and guides on how to do this, check them out here:
