Tired of Scams & Low Quality Opportunities?
Cutco Cutlery Review
Name: Cutco Cutlery
Type: MLM (multi-level marketing)
Startup Costs: Free + inventory loan of $450 for performing demos
Ideal For: People who are good at selling
What Is Cutco Cutlery?
Cutco Cutlery is a New York based MLM (multi-level marketing) company that sells knives, knife sets, tableware, and cooking utensils. They also offer the opportunity for people from all walks of life to create an income which is the main thing I’ll be going over in this review.
Cutco Cutlery’s parent company is called Vector Marketing Corporation and they’ve been in business since 1948, they currently have an A+ Rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website which may give you an idea of how they do business, but you still gotta be careful because BBB ratings aren’t always reliable.
Cutco Cutlery Products
Cutco Cutlery sells kitchen related products, but they’re mainly known for their knives and knife sets. They guarantee that their knives stay sharp for years, if down the line you find that your knives aren’t sharp enough you can send them back to the factory for a free sharpening.
Here is a look at just some of Cutco Cutlery’s products:
- Knives – Bread knives, carving knives, cheese knives, chef knives, everyday knives, pairing knives, and more.
- Knife Sets – Gift knife sets, small knife sets, big knife sets.
- Shears – Also known as “scissors,” Cutco’s sheers can be used in the kitchen, the garden, the office, and more.
- Cook’s Tools – Scissors, cooking utensils, cutting boards, BBQ tools, and more.
- Tableware – Knives, forks, spoons
- Cookware – Pans, skillets, cookware sets, steamers, dutch ovens, stock pots, and more.
- Outdoors – Hunting knives, sporting knives, pocket knives, garden tools
Cutco Cutlery knives are sold exclusively through their representatives, so you won’t find them being sold anywhere else.
The biggest problem I find with their knives is that they’re incredibly expensive. Individual kitchen knives go from $50 to $150+ each, and knife sets are priced at $200 to $800+ each.
If you go online at places like Amazon.com you can easily find something similar for way cheaper, so in my opinion it’s going to be hard for you to convince people to buy knives off of you.
Become a Cutco Cutlery Representative
If you want to create an income with Cutco Cutlery you’ll have to sign up as a representative, which is just a fancy term for “door to door salesman.” Yep, you’ll basically be going from house to house trying to get people to buy knives.
The main way to earn money doing this would be if someone buys the knives which earns you a sales commission.
Cutco Cutlery likes to promote their opportunity via wanted ads, they usually target young college kids so you might have seen some of their ads posted on various college campuses.
To get started you’ll just need to find one of their wanted ads in your local area and respond to it. You’ll probably be given a phone number or email to contact someone who will give you information to get started.
The sign up process just involves having to fill out an application form and then be interviewed, according to my research it seems that there is a 100% acceptance rate and nobody gets turned down.
Then you’ll have to go through 3 days of training which is unpaid. You’ll then be loaned a set of demonstration knives for $425 which you can use to show and demonstrate them to potential customers.
Cutco Cutlery’s Compensation Plan
Unlike traditional MLM companies where there are confusing compensation plans that focuses a lot on recruiting new members, there are only two ways you can earn with Cutco Cutlery and it’s very simple:
- Product Sales – Selling knives to customers and earn anywhere from 10% to 35% commissions
- Booking Appointments – You’re guaranteed a base pay of $17.25 for every in-home appointment booked and completed by the sales representative, you get paid even if no sale is made.
Complaints About Cutco Cutlery
One of the major complaints about Cutco is that their job posters tend to be misleading in the way it’s worded. For example they’ll say “$17.25 Base Appt” which apparently many people seem to think means $17.25 per hour which is not the case. It just means you get paid $17.25 for every appointment you set up with a customer for showing of the knives.
Another big complaint is that the training sessions that you attend are unpaid. Cutco has actually been in some trouble with the law before when people sued them for this very problem.
Is Cutco Cutlery a Scam?
I wouldn’t call Cutco Cutlery a scam, they’ve been around for a long time but that doesn’t mean I would recommend them. I feel that their products are too expensive, and unless you’re an extraordinary salesperson who make tons of in-home appointments and sales everyday, you just aren’t going to earn very much money.
Cutco Cutlery doesn’t pay you an hourly wage, so this basically mean you can go door to door all day long and still not earn a damn thing if you’re not getting sales or leads.
Furthermore, if you’re not a people person then you’re really going to hate going around showing and selling knives to groups of people face-to-face. When going door to door you might also have to deal with some angry people who doesn’t want to be disturbed by you.
Overall this is a really crappy opportunity and is not the way to go if you’re looking to make money. If you’re the ambitious type who wants to start your own business there is a much better opportunity which I’ll discuss below.
A Much Better Way To Make Money
If you’re interested in making a part time or full time income I highly recommend that you start a blog and promote other people’s products and services as an affiliate marketer.
Affiliate Marketing is much better than Cutco or any other MLM opportunity for a few reasons:
- No need to sell or recruit, no face-to-face interactions, you can just blog online from home
- You’ll can promote any product/company you want, not just limited to the products of the MLM company you joined
- Free to start and newbie friendly
This definitely works, guys! It’s the same strategy I use to make $1,000+ per month from this blog you’re on now. You might not have known that it’s possible to earn serious income with a blog, but it can absolutely be done if you have the right training and mindset.
If you want to learn how to do all this check out my link below where I’ll give you step-by-step training:
If you’re not ready to start a blog yet then why not check out my Favorite “Get-Paid-To” Sites where you can get paid for doing the things you love such as sharing your opinions, watching videos, playing games, reading emails, and much more. These sites won’t pay you a full time income, but they take no skill to do and is easy money.
