AppKarma Review – Scam Or Earn Cash Downloading Apps?

earn rewards playing with apps

Welcome to another review on apps that pay rewards! AppKarma is an app you can download on your smartphone that pays you cash and other rewards for doing simple tasks like downloading apps, playing games, and more!

Is AppKarma a scam though? They currently hold a 4.5/5 star rating on Google Play, but that doesn’t 100% prove they’re legit. In this AppKarma review I’ll show some nice things about them as well as some bad things.

Apps that pay rewards only pay you very little, you won’t make more than $5-$10 a month. Check out my Top Work At Home Recommendation if you’re looking to make $1,000+ a month online.

AppKarma is a free app you can download where you can earn points by doing “offers” which usually involve downloading and using free apps. The points you earn can later be redeemed for cash and other prizes like gift cards.

If you like doing these kind of small tasks to earn cash online, also consider checking out my favorite sites like Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate where they pay you to take surveys, read emails, watch videos, and more.

How AppKarma REALLY Works

Getting Started

AppKarma is an app available for download from either the Google Play Store or the Apple Store onto your Android or iOS smartphone. Or you can just go to their website and have them text you your download link.

Once you’ve downloaded and opened the app, there will be various introductory tasks you can do which will earn you points right away. These tasks include creating an account (50 points), verifying your email (50 points), entering your referral code if you have one (300 points) and a few other things.

So at this point you may be wondering how much money these points are worth? The short answer is…not much. Assuming you’ll trade in points for Paypal cash then 1,250 points = $1 USD.

Earn Points Completing Offers

As you scroll down from those introductory tasks you’ll see “App Offers” which are tasks you have to do to earn points. Most tasks pay around 700-1500 points and usually just require you to download a free game app and play the game till you reach a certain level. Other tasks may require that you sign up for a free trial with a credit card…it’s still free as long as you cancel before the trial ends.

But then there are PAID offers which do require that you make a purchase. In order to not lose money doing this you’ll have to make sure that you rewards pay more than what you’re required to spend to complete the offer.

Badges & Bonuses

There are 28 total badges you can achieve on AppKarma, earning badges with give you bonus points. You can earn badges by reaching specific milestones like completing a certain number of offers, reaching a certain number of total points earned, and other things such as liking AppKarma on Facebook, getting your first gift card, and plenty more.

How many bonus points you earn depends on the badge, but the bigger the milestone the bigger the bonus. For example you’ll earn 50 points after you’ve completed your first 5 offers, and 500 points when you completed 50 offers.

By the way, you may also be interested in earning money by watching videos, taking surveys, searching the web, reading emails, and more with “get-paid-to” sites like Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate.

Inviting Others To Join

AppKarma has a referral program where you can earn by inviting others to join. Just take the unique referral link they give you and advertise it to everyone you know. You can earn 30% of whatever your referrals earn, so that means if Grandpa Joe signs up under your referral link and earns $10 on AppKarma, as his referrer you earn $3!

How Do You Get Paid?

AppKarma pays you via Paypal or by various gift cards such as Amazon, iTunes, Target, Starbucks, and more. Each payment method has their own minimum payout thresholds.

For Paypal you’ll need a minimum of 12,500 points which is worth $10 USD.

With gift cards you’ll need at least 6,000 points which is worth $5.

AppKarma Advantages

  • Their app is available to be downloaded for free worldwide
  • Earn cash doing easy tasks you can do while bored
  • Lots of ways to get paid, including cash via Paypal
  • Generous referral program
  • Currently has a 4.5/5 star rating on Google Play Store

AppKarma Problems

  • Tasks are low paying and it will take you a while to reach the $10 payout via Paypal
  • Some tasks require you to spend money first to earn points
  • You won’t make more than chump change every month

Is AppKarma a Scam?

No, they’re far from a scam. AppKarma is definitely a legit app you can use to earn a few extra dollars every month. But you won’t earn more than $5-$10 a month, so don’t quit your day job. I do like that they have lots of tasks available and most are free to do. Also they pay with Paypal which is very convenient.

Overall if you don’t mind earning beer money, they are worth joining. If that’s the case you may also want to check out other beer money sites such as Swagbucks, Inbox Pays, and Cash Crate where you can earn cash by watching advertisement videos, reading emails, playing games, taking surveys, and more.

If beer money isn’t enough for you, then forget these low paying sites. If you want to make $1,000+ a month to replace your day job or to make a substantial part time income, check out my Top Work At Home Recommendation instead.

What I feel pained mostly about apps like this is that they claim you can make so much money taking surveys, watching videos and doing other tasks. It’s annoying but the truth like you said is that one can only make a few bucks which isn’t really a much. It’s nice to see they’re not a scam though and one can really make money from it but this is not for me. Great review you have here.

  3. Gracen says:

Most of these companies that promise paying money for downloading of apps are simply a waste of time. You can imagine all the activities one has to go through yet it is not even close to the 1250 points that is equivalent to $1. I see them as waste of time.

The AppKarma problems said it all where one will have to spend money first in order to perform some tasks that will help him earn points.  At the end of the month, you are paid peanuts.

    • Author - Kent Leung says:

A bag of peanuts cost about $1.25 in the vending machine where I live, so yeah you are correct they pay peanuts! But it’s not a bad option to earn some pocket change if you’re on your phone a lot and playing games and downloading stuff anyway.

These apps and other similar things come in real handy when you’re in situations where you’re waiting for things, like at the airport, waiting in the bank line, waiting for trailers to play at the movie, etc. It’s not meant for a serious income, only a small supplemental income.

  4. John says:

It seems like an interesting way of earning money online, it looks like the kind of thing for people who are always on their phone.  But these types of sites end up costing you more in time than you get out of it.

Are there any other ways of earning money that is more worthwhile? I would rather invest my time in something that will earn more.

    • Author - Kent Leung says:

Well, sites like AppKarma will cost you a lot of time for very little rewards in return. They’re not meant to be used as a serious income source.

If you’re looking to make serious income of let’s say at least $1,000+ a month, I recommend that you check out my Top Work At Home Recommendation where I’ll show you step-by-step on how to create a part time or full time passive income with a blogging business.
